Happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter Sunday (if you celebrate)! It was a really relaxing weekend and I still managed to squeeze in a few fun activities and deep cleaned my house. I had a few catch-ups with friends, went to Sunday service with my family, and even attempted to learn a new hobby…
If you watched my stories over the weekend on insta, I started learning how to decorate pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs). I’m finding out that it’s a very slow process. My hope is to have it ready by Orthodox Easter (April 16th). I spent several hours on Sunday decorating 2 eggs, and I’m not even halfway done. When I finish, I’ll share the final product on here (even if it’s terrible). I did not think it would be so difficult to draw intricate designs on empty eggshells, but turns out, it is…
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I’ve been making a concerted effort to rediscover my heritage and culture. Growing up in Colorado, where there is a predominately Russian community, we were raised with a heavy Russian influence. I grew up only speaking Russian at home, despite my family’s Ukrainian roots. Over the past year, I’ve started learning Ukrainian, cooking more traditional recipes, and now learning this art. It’s bringing me a lot of joy to reconnect with my heritage.
Along the lines of pursuing things that are bringing me joy, I’m going to start figure skating lessons next week! As a child, I loved figure skating. I used to dream that one day, I’d be an Olympic skater (despite not even taking any lessons lol). We had a lot of obstacles growing up, so I was never able to pursue that dream. Now, however, I have the resources to do it. I thought “Why not?” and signed up for adult figure skating classes. While I know I’m never going to the Olympics, I can at least start doing more things that bring me happiness. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!
Anyway, moving on to some fun links…
I’ve been hearing a lot about exercising based on where you are in your menstrual cycle. Not sure what science says about this, but it’s an interesting concept!
