This month is just flying by. Before you know it, it’s going to be summer. Although the warm weather is far and few between here in Hull, we have had an occasional sunny day or two gracing us with its presence in the last few weeks. I’m very stir crazy from being cooped up during the winter months, so I am especially looking forward to squeezing as many cultural and fun events into May as I can – If they are outdoors, even better. If they are outdoors and the weather is actually WARM… I’ll consider myself a winner. In order to maximize the rest of the month, I’ve done a bit of research and found some interesting local events, and will hopefully give you an idea of what’s on in Hull…
This is hopefully the first of many monthly lists where I compile all the things I want to be doing, reading, eating, listening to and crafting this month around Kingston Upon Hull and the Humber area. Do you know of any fun events that you just don’t want to miss? Comment below so I don’t miss a thing!

Read
For my monthly book club, we picked the book, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, to read. What started as a bit difficult to follow has turned into a fun and witty ‘mystery’. Bernadette is quite the eccentric character. She is a former architect; a woman married to a very successful Microsoft guru, a disheveled mom to Bee. But most of all, she is a person who is just going through a lot of disappointment inside. What makes her story interesting is just how she goes about handling things that life throws at her. Her petty reactions are actually some of the most hilarious elements of the book, and so utterly human.
If I recall correctly, The Handmaid’s Tale was an optional read one year in high school. This book was nowhere on my radar for the longest time, and I did not opt to read it. Now, 10 years later, it’s suddenly all the rage due to the popular Hulu show coming out. Unfortunately, I can’t watch the show here in the UK, but I can read the book. Thankfully, this month for another book club, we are reading this as well! I am so intrigued by the storyline – the ‘dystopian’ genre is totally my jam.
After having read Burial Rites by Hannah Kent (read my review here), I was very keen on getting my hands of more of her work. The Good People follows a small Irish village and the way they are closely entangled with their superstitions. Faeries are called ‘The Good People’ and they are usually to blame for inexplicable life events of these villagers. This strong conviction in their existence can come at a price…

20 May 2017 – While I am not usually the type of person that is naturally drawn to vintage clothing, I do love a good fair. Next weekend, Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair is happening right in Hull city centre. It will be fun to have a look at what is happening in the vintage world. In an effort to constantly update and play with my style, this might be the perfect occasion to find some inspiration!
21 May 2017 – Ever since I’ve wandered the streets of London and had a proper taste of the street market experience, I’ve been feeling the need to find one locally. I found that the Humber Street Market will be on the 21st, so I will definitely make it down for that!
27 – 28 May 2017 – If you’re one of the lucky few and managed to snag one of BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend tickets, you’ll be in the crowd with me! As desperate as my attempts were at getting a ticket on the release date, I failed. Luckily, I have friends, and one had a spare and invited me. Now, I get to see Katy Perry, Lorde, Lana Del Rey and Kings of Leon LIVE. LIVE, do you hear me?
Eat
Ever since I wrote this, I’ve meaning to try Tapasya, and it never seems to work out. I keep looking at their menu, and keep drooling over some of their dishes. Let’s see if I can find a friend to make it out with me after Pay Day this month! I need some biryani in my life…
Wild Air is a fairly new establishment, located on Princes Avenue. Their menu has something for everyone! I love their Tapas selection, as well as ‘From the Grill’ section. I have yet to try it, but the menu looks fab, and maybe once I’m done with the 28 day plan, I will give it a go!
Watch
My brother and I have a similar type of humor. So when he was raving about Guardians of the Galaxy, my ears perked up. I saw the first one, and liked it, but it wasn’t everything I was hoping it would be. This new one, he promised, is a lot funnier! I can’t wait to go to the cinema and check it out! If you want to see it, there are only a few days left in some cinemas, so don’t miss out!
Listen
These are three songs that I’ve been playing on repeat this month. I absolutely love good vocals, dance music, and catchy tunes. Have a listen, and let me know which (if any) you like in the comments below!
Bloodstream – Iolite
Queen of Boredness (feat. Diesler) – Kinny
Dust Clears (feat. Noonie Bao) – Clean Bandit
