My Favorite Skincare Essentials | Spring 2023

My skincare routine evolved over the years, especially since I was able to mostly get my biggest concern, acne, under control. It took two cycles of Accutane, but I finally feel like I’m not constantly fighting with my face. Besides helping me feel more confident, moving my focus away from acne has allowed me the freedom to experiment with fun beauty products. I LOVE having daily skincare routines, and I’ve settled on some products that work really well for me…

some of my faves…

Biossance Squalene + Vitamin C Dark Spot Serum ($65.00) | Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil ($105.00) | Biossance Squalene + Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum ($65.00) | Biossance Squalene + Vitamin C Rose Oil ($74.00) | Hada Labo Gentle Hydrating Cleanser ($12.58) | Cerave Moisturizing Cream ($16.99) | Bioderma Sensibio ($18.99) | Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil ($9.36)| Primally Pure Charcoal Bar (not pictured – $16.00) | SuperGoop Sunscreen (not pictured – $38.00)

An approach that I’ve been using that works really well for me is Skin Cycling. Just as our skin goes through different phases during its natural cycle, we can tailor our skincare regimen accordingly to target different needs. For example, I wash my face and remove my makeup every evening, using Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil followed by either Hada Labo Gentle Hydrating Cleanser or the Primally Pure Charcoal Bar. If I still have a bit of eye makeup after that, I will use the Bioderma Sensibio and a reusable make-up remover pad to gently take it off. Afterward, I will use an exfoliant such as the Biossance Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum. The next night I will clean my skin, and then use a product like Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil, which has an active ingredient like retinol. Retinol is the holy grail of skin ingredients, targeting skin texture. I follow with a creamy moisturizer such as the Cerave Moisturizing Cream. The next two evenings, I will just wash my face and use moisturizer, and then repeat the cycle.

My morning routine is a little simpler. I will wash my face usually with water (or the charcoal bar if I’m particularly greasy). I will follow with the Biossance Vitamin C Serum, occasionally the Biossance Rose Hip Oil. Depending on how dry my skin is, I will either apply some more moisturizer, and/or sunscreen as well, and then put my makeup on.
