Ok, so I’m a bit late to the game of posting on here for 2019. HAPPY NEW YEAR! (and happy Wednesday). I had the best vacation and am feeling extremely refreshed coming back into routine. As important as it is to take time to completely unwind, disconnect and relax, it is equally important to come up with a game plan, and what better way to do it than with some resolutions?
I’m a firm believer in resolutions. I think that it is so important to take the time several times a year to reflect on where you are and where you want to be going. I wrote these on the first of January, and have been going back to them a few times.
I’ve learned that resolutions don’t work for me if I force myself to start on the 1st and do them every day for 365 days. It’s IMPOSSIBLE for me. I lose interest in them by day 7. And also, if you ‘fail’ one day, you feel like there isn’t any point to the change you’re making, and that you might as well resort to eating all the donuts you resolved to no longer eat in 2019.
An example of this is in the past I would vow to go without coffee or chocolate or wine for an entire month, and these resolutions are actually pointless. What have I gained if I did not have chocolate for 30 days, only to binge eat it on day 31? Rather, a better resolution is about making health the priority this year, and that can be achieved in so many ways.
Instead of the ‘Dry January’ approach, what works for me is jotting some goals or ideas down that I want to improve or at least think about, and revisit that note frequently. I keep my resolutions in Notes on my iPhone, so they are readily available to review. This is a living document, and it grows or changes as I change throughout the year. If I find that I’m not getting anywhere with a resolution, I get rid of it or change it to something more achievable. Being realistic with myself has helped me to stop feeling like a failure, and understanding what is in my reach, and what isn’t.
2019 RESOLUTIONS:
- Make health my ACTUAL lifestyle for 2019. Not just something I do occasionally, but gather information, read more about what is healthy and find something that sticks!
- Climb more mountains. Figuratively and literally.
- Figure out what I want to do with my life and make a plan towards it. I know I’m 30 now, and should have this all figured out, but I don’t have a clue!
- Dedicate more time for my blog. Start by writing a blogpost today! My blog is something that brings me joy, and I’ve neglected it for far too long.
- Find a small chunk of time each day for focusing and brainstorming ideas for my lifestyle/social media project (aka, caffeineberry).
- Get back into the Word. Make God a priority again by reading His word and praying daily. Find an online Bible plan that can help you stay focused.
- Do at least 6 “no spend months”. They don’t have to be consecutive, but at least try for 6. I have some ‘rules’ that I set for myself (read about them here).
- Save £1000 to complete baby step 1 and get started on baby step 2 (from Dave Ramsey).
- Read a book each month and work through my bucket list of books
- Stop drinking alcohol so much! I want to save it for more special occasions, rather than just in the middle of the week.
- This one is overused but lose weight because it’s honestly time. I know what I want my body to look and feel like and what I want it to do, and would like my physique to reflect that. I want to be fit and healthy so I can run longer without creaky knees! Looking better in clothing would be pretty fab too.
- I want this to be a year of CrossFit PB’s! I want myself to see how strong and awesome I actually am.
- Purge. Clean out social media, my iTunes and closet. Marie Kondo the sh*t out of your life. (Post soon on this!)
- Live on Less. Less food, less material crap, less social media in my face.
Here is to a Happy 2019!
